don't you think all education should be continual and all should cover past (history) to present? Thinker: possibly, but I was speaking about history specifically.
How can young people understand the breadth of history when they have so little life experience? Thinker: This is why there needs to be more focus on history in education
What would be the benefits of youth gaining an appreciation of history, and do you think there are any topics that would be especially beneficial? Explorer: It's not an appreciation of history, it's knowing the past so they can make better decisions. The younger generation will be in charge at some point.
In order for people to understand history, to understand what has happened in the past they need to somehow relate to it personally? Thinker: I don't think so. We need to know the past to succeed in the future. This is less about personal events, and more about the good of society/the world.
Isn't one of the problems that the kids in the class lose interest if they can't relate to what is being taught? Thinker: That is the same for every subject. The point is that people need to learn from the past - currently it seems like everything gets forgotten after 1-2 generations. The only way to solve this is for more people to understand the past.
